I always jokingly say that I am a self-proclaimed "hat person". As Kaity claims that no pair of sunglasses look bad on her, I pride myself in my ability to pull off any kind of hat (see this post). TI was looking over my Instagram profile today when I realized that in my last five posts, I am wearing a hat. Supporting my "hat person" theory, I am quite pleased with my unconscious hat sequence. It is an underrated accessory, for sure, but I have found that it can really pull an outfit together, while silmultaneously hiding messy hair. To give worth to my otherwise meaningless epiphany, I decided to write about the stylish hats worth wearing for fall, displayed through my recent Instagram posts. See also my surprise pick for the hat I am dying to wear right now.
1. Beret
It's a French classic and a chic fall staple. I like to wear it with menswear to avoid the snobby beret look.
2. Baseball Cap
I'm all about juxtaposition. An 80's business dress with any old cap hits the sweet spot in accessorizing the fashion way.
3. Bucket Hat
I am new, but also late, to the bucket hat trend. I have to say though, I dig it with a dress. Toddler fashion inspiration for the win.
4. Wide Brim Hat
The wide-brim hat category houses a variety of styles from the sunblocking type to the sharp edged hipster hat you wear on the back of your head (though one of my pet peeves). Here are some I have worn recently, including a "dramatic hat" that I bought because it reminded me of those over-the-top Jacquemus hats. Check out a funny conversation with my boyfriend on the straw hat below:
5. Bonus non-hat hair accessories including, but not limited to, scarves and headbands
I have a lot of bad hair days... okay. I need a little help. Padded headbands, stretchy black bands, and silk scarves add that extra oomph to make me feel more confident.
And finally, the hat I want...
COWBOY!!!
This western/prairie trend is making my heart sing! My 13 year-old self would be very proud for predicting the cowboy boot trend so far in advance because I was made fun of for wearing them with dresses. I still have them. They fit me. And I want to wear them with all of the dresses now. So, naturally, I need a cowboy hat too, right?? My perfect imaginary cowboy hat is jet black in wool with a slight curve and a decorated band. I'd wear it knee length shorts and an oversized tee, or perhaps even a short suit. A flowing midi dress would also do the trick, unless a cowboy hat is the one hat I cannot pull off...
But I doubt it.
