At the start of each season, I find myself craving new fashion items which quickly turn into obsessions. As if my closet is not already packed, I will still find a way to find new things that I feel like I "need". Check out my newest obsessions for summer below!
1. Vintage Basket
Major Jane Birkin inspiration here. I am not talking about basket bags that are popular now (however, you can shop some below because I do love them and already have some). The basket bag that I want is an actual vintage basket, perhaps with some frays in the wicker to show it is well-traveled. Am I going on a picnic? Am I going to buy organic carrots at the farmers market? No, I just want to carry around a basket as a purse because Jane Birkin looks chic af with it. Although, a picnic would be nice. I will use the basket for that too.
2. Sheer Dress
Kaity is tired of me saying "I'm really into sheer dresses right now," so I will say it here for one last time. It is actually more versatile than it seems and you can choose the amount of skin that you want to show depending on what is layered underneath. You can layer a slip dress, a matching high-waisted undie set, or an entirely other outfit (shorts with a tank, jeans with a bra top, etc.). See how I styled a sheer dress last summer here.
3. Vintage Glassware
I am a snob for craft cocktails and a juicy glass of red wine, so why not find some accessories for my exquisite taste for the finer things? I fell in love with vintage cocktail glasses after visiting some great cocktail bars and I found the best local source, Raising the Bar, at the Farm Chicks Fair. The Break also stocks a good selection. I have yet to visit the store, but I love to see what they put on their Instagram stories.
4. Kitten Heel Mule
This trend is not new, but it is new to me because I used to not like mules. I don't know what sparked in me, but all of a sudden I have been craving a 90's-esque mule styled like Carrie Bradshaw. A minimal sandal or a pointed toe will do. I need an option when I haven't gotten a pedicure for a while. I recently just got both of those at a thrift store (one is Prada). Franco Sarto is another good brand to look for at second-hand stores for these types of shoes. My fav new Instagram account, Lucia Zolea, also sells amazing designer items including shoes (both Chanels above are from the online store). It is pricier than the average vintage shop, but if it is in your budget, it is definitely worth shopping (you know, or just stalking for inspiration).
5. White Victorian Blouse
Crisp-white, high collar, lace details, and billowing sleeves: all characteristics for the perfect summer blouse. I don't know why I even bother with white because I always spill food on myself, but I can't let that ruin my dreams. I like it layered underneath a dress like Elle Fanning or just worn casually with distressed denim. I favor the authenticity of a vintage blouse in this style, but modern ones will last you longer. Try Isabel Marant for a splurge!
