Our College Best Friends & Their Style Identities

Updated: Jun 4, 2019

They've seen you at your worst, your drunkest, they know your weirdest habits, what makes you tick, and all of those "memories", at least the ones you remember, will be cherished forever. Our squad encompasses 8 extremely unique young ladies or as we like to put it 8 legendary moms. We come from just about every part of the United States, from different backgrounds, different political views, and completely different styles. Ranging in different ages, no matter what, we've supported and raised each other into the young ladies we are today as if each of us was a long lost mother to the other one. May 2017 we lost two of our squad members. It was time for them to graduate, whether they liked it or not, and move off into the real world, but since that day our group text, snap, and finsta page has still flourished. From fashion advice, to boy advice, to troubling conversations (and arguments) about the current state of this world, the respect amongst each and everyone of us is so deeply rooted that nothing can tear us apart. Now while you might not understand every inside joke, this post isn't directly for you... but for Sara, Shannon, Faith, Olivia, Caroline & Emily as we choose to celebrate and express all of our personalities the best way we know how... through their style identities. And who knows maybe there is one of us that you can relate to and take style notes from.

Olivia - Olive is the dark horse of the group. For all we know she was born and raised in a test tube that was a part of a federally funded science experiment for cloning on Area 51. All jokes aside, Olivia keeps herself a mystery. One weekend she disappeared and was apparently attending some wedding for a brother none of us even knew we had and recently dropped on us that private, mysterious Olivia was apparently a world traveller on a recent trip to Italy she took to absolutely none of our knowledge. However, Olivia parallels her sneaky ways with an incredibly preppy wardrobe. As one of the two sorority girls in the group, we grew accustom to seeing her in a classic southern Lily Pulitzer dress. A wedge espedrille is considered her black pump and she can rock a bell sleeve with a sorority squat better than any other SRAT star we've seen. Originally a native of Oklahoma, her family's recent move to the South was long over due. Her long, dark hair and olive complexion (how fitting) lets her be the perfect backdrop for bold colors and patterns.

Faith - A recent college graduate with a psychology major has a deep seeded desire to test out her creative side. Years of 3 hour labs & science experiments has left her wondering if maybe she spent far too long training her logical, left side of her brain that she might be missing out on a hidden creative talent. As a new resident of New York City she flocked to the perfect place to try out a new version of herself. Leaving college has developed the sophistication of her style as she gravitates more towards tailored pieces, but the girl is still young, 22 and experimenting with the textures of her wardrobe by adding in some suedes, satins, and crushed velvet in trendy millennial pastels such as pink, baby blue, and purples.

Emily - Our other graduated baby was Emily who returned back to her roots in Atlanta post-graduation. Each and every single one of us took a sucker punch from life this year and got through it with the love and support from the squad. However, it is safe to say that Emily takes the cake in hardships with her extremely traumatic and grueling break up between her and Wofford College. We never knew whether or not she was joking when she told us she was going to purposely fail her French final so she would be able to roll up with the remainder of the squad on move in day for Fall 2018. However we pushed the baby bird out of the nest, she passed her finals with flying colors and has now blossomed into a fine-ass workin' lady. Lately in snapchats we've noticed that she's really experimenting with a chic bell sleeve to glam up her everyday outfit for work. A 9-5 accounting job can get tedious and boring, she keeps it interesting with effortless style and her tinder addiction.

Sara - Our 90's style baby is no stranger to taking bold fashion risks. From flatform shoes, a FILA-esque crop top and short set, and statement earrings, the only thing bolder than her weekend outfits just might be her personality. Her outfits are usually completed by a choker, some extra highlight on her cheekbones and a round of pre-workout shots right before a night out (one of the only reasons we'd make the hike over to Sara & Shannon's room). Sara's college style can be signified by the iconic moment during a rager at the Multicultural House. While sporting a vintage A-line floral dress and her hair tied up on the top of her head with a scrunchie she Milly Rocked as hard as she could in the center of the dance floor... that is up until her boyfriend stole the show by twerking on her and eventually getting booed out of the circle.

Shannon - Our Irish princess runs 10 miles before any of us are even awake in the morning (possibly 15 miles by the time Faith is awake). She's always rocking the classic distance runner watch with her everyday outfit. Keeping it sporty and casual by day but transforms into an edgy sex-kitten at night. Both her and Faith have slender figures which means closets were being shared left and right with each of them taking their own spin on a bodysuit. But give her the go ahead to max out the aggression level for the night and you'll see her downing a bottle of fireball in a mesh bodysuit and her classic pair of hoops so fast that you swore it was a race to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The energy given by our little fireball is always 100% even if that means the night is only gunna consist of 3 of us power houring some Svedka and dancing to Gasolina in our own apartment.

Caroline - Our little baby Freshman was initiated into the group while we were gone studying abroad in Paris, however we think that Caroline's edition was the final piece that solidified and glued our bond together. The strength, both physically and mentally in our little gymnast Caroline never ceases to amaze us and while we can all agree she's usually the first to get roasted in the group we tend to forget that we've forced years of maturity on baby Carol and she's handled it like a champ. As our second sorority girl and Olivia's more outgoing fraternal style twin (because they aren't identical just complimentary) her Charleston roots are prominent in both the way she decorates her room and the clothes that she wears. She can rock a classic romper and definitely has the legs to do it! Though she's going to argue that her dance skills reign high and mighty in the group ( a title that a few of us would probably fight over as well ) it's a title she's going to have to fall second to until she's mastered Emily's iconic cyclone and Taylor Girl's whip.

Reminiscing on college memories still makes our hearts fall heavy. With the massive amounts of laughter there were also many tears and memories we would kill to relive. So until we have the chance to reunite, here is a cheers to the 8 legendary moms, may we live long and prosper and despite our differences remember that the most important commonality to have is a passionate love for one another.
