By now you've probably noticed and gotten tired of a t-shirt that took social media by storm. From fashion bloggers to rappers, from models to Elton John, the 2017 Gucci Resort show debuted a menagerie of graphic tees that have been worn by just about anyone that matters. Finally taking the attention off of the Thrasher tee obsession, one simple logo tee from that collection earned itself social media stardom and eventually a mainstream pop culture status quo, a feat that we can officially measure by the amount of times it's been plastered all over HypeBeast's Instagram (no shade).
Fashion is to be taken as interpretation by the consumer; a characteristic that is shared by all art forms. For me, before this tee shirt sky rocketed into the world of social media, it represented a collection that quintessentially redesigned an entire brand. A brand that has made me fall in love with color, mixing patterns, and combining separates. A brand that at first glance has a vintage inspiration but is designed so meticulously that it completely transcends into a redesigned modern look. So during my last week in Paris I saved every penny it took to walk into the Gucci store at 23 Rue Royale and bought the only piece of clothing from the collection that I could afford as a symbol of my love and admiration of the brand. For now, it will stand as the only monetary contribution I'll make towards the house. Don't you worry, I took full advantage of my experience by ordering a sparkling water, cappuccino, trying on a couple of gowns and simultaneously pretending to actually contemplate purchasing them. It was an unforgettable day.
Since Michele's take over, Gucci has earned the admiration of some of the swaggiest men in the industry. While for everyone else this shirt might be a way to purchase a figurative ticket into this kind of fame,
for me it's nothing more than a love for Gucci, the collection, and the places Michele will be taking it.
